Marie Kennemer Adams

Marie Kennemer Adams was born October 5, 1914 in the Highway community east of Carter to Jennie Lou and Timothy Ray Kennemer and died Sunday January 26, 1996 in the Elk City Skilled Nursing Center at the age of 82 years.

Marie graduated from Highway School in 1932. She attended Oklahoma State A & M College and received her B.A. and Masters in Education from Southwestern State College. Marie taught three years at the Doxey School and married Lester Adams on September 23, 1928 in Clinton. She taught at Crawford and Merritt before moving to Hext where she taught for 20 years. In 1962 they moved to Sayre where Marie taught until her retirement. Lester and Marie celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary in 1988.

She was a member of the Sayre Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister Ethel Throckmorton and three brothers, Vester, Earl and W.A.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Sayre Church of Christ officiated by Kevin Ballard. Interment will be in the Sayre-Doxey Cemetery, Sayre, Beckham County, Oklahoma under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service, Sayre.

Survivors include; her husband, Lester of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Dan Ryan of Abernathy, Texas; one son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Steva Adams of Sayre; seven grandchildren, Trent, Marcia, Prim, Christy, Vicky, Rachel and Lori; and a host of relatives and friends.
