Delpha Elenor (Davis) Gurley

Delpha Elenor Gurley was born March 14, 1923 in Delhi, Oklahoma to Verna Ophelia (Beavers) and James Garfield Davis. She passed away April 20, 2018 at Sayre, Oklahoma at the age of 95 years 1 month and 6 days.
 

Delpha grew up in the Sayre community and graduated from Delhi High School in 1941. On April 24, 1943 she was married to Garland Edward Gurley at Sayre, Oklahoma. For their honeymoon they spent time at the Herbert Hotel in Sayre. Delpha and Garland were both baptized in 1948 in a farm pond in the Breaks south of Sayre. They made their home in the Delhi community and Delpha was employed at the Town Hall Estates as a cook for 5 years. In 1978 they opened Delpha Ice Cream Parlor where her and Garland worked side by side for a number of years before selling it in 1987. After Garland death in 1991, Delpha began her career in the healthcare industry working for Sayre Hospital as a nurses aid and continued until her retirement in 2004. Delpha enjoyed sewing, fishing and cooking but her passion in life was her family and her grandson, Steven.
 

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, 1 sister, Pauline Reddell, 1 brother, Steve Davis and an infant brother.
 

She is survived by her son, James Gurley and wife, Gloria, Delhi, OK; 1 grandson, Steven Gurley and wife, Courtney, Delhi, OK; 1 great grandson on the way and a host of other relatives and friends.
