Harold Wayne "Poppie" Patterson was born March 7, 1933 in Carter, Oklahoma to Susie Emily (Jeffers) and Willie Burger Patterson. He passed away August 9, 2018 at Sayre, Oklahoma at the age of 85 years, 5 months and 2 days.
 

Harold grew up in the Carter, Delhi and Sayre communities and attended school at Carter. After leaving school he helped raise his 4 younger siblings and care for an aunt and uncle besides his family. Harold was married on November 5, 1952 at Sayre, OK to Mary Isabell (Cobb) Patterson. After their marriage they made Sayre their home and he worked for Gerald Bibb Construction, Post Exchange, Turner Brothers, Pucketts Ranches and Garrett Carpenter Furniture before he started his own business, Shelton-Patterson Backhoe Service. He then began his 20 year career at Beckham County as a heavy equipment operator. All throughout his life he enjoyed being a cowboy and riding horses and loved spending time with his family and friends.

Harold loved the Lord and was baptized by Charlie Floyd at Texola Baptist Church and attended First Baptist Church at Sayre before his illness wouldn't allow him to attend.


He is preceded in death by his parents, 1 daughter, Mary Jean, 1 son, Toby Harold, 3 brothers, Billy, Johnny Ray and Danny Patterson and 2 sisters, Donna Sue Ullam and Helen Patterson.
 

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mary, of the home; 1 son, Tony Patterson and wife, Doris Kay, Sayre, OK; 2 grandchildren, Samantha Cain and husband, Jake, Joshua Harold Patterson and wife, Nikki; 4 great grandchildren, Aliya Bowdoin, Brooklyn Bowdin, Sydne Freck and Rhoegyn Patterson; 1 sister, Wanda Cox; 2 brothers, Donald and Douglas Patterson and a HOST of other relatives and friends.
 

Services are held under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service, Sayre.  Condolences can be made online at www.whineryfs.com.
