Deborah Denise (Byrd) (Bedford) Simpson-Carpenter

Deborah Denise Simpson was born July 29, 1954 in Salina, Kansas to Joyce Marilyn and John Alexander Byrd. She passed away March 10, 2017 at Burns Flat, Oklahoma at the age of 62 years, 7 months and 11 days.

Deborah's father was a colonel in the United States Air Force and shortly after her birth they moved to Istanbul, Turkey and later to Hemet, California. When her mother, Joyce, remarried Dr. Philip Englund they moved to Mesa, Arizona. She attended Westwood High school. Upon graduation, Debbie joined the Air Force and was stationed at the Little Rock Air Force Base from where she was deployed to Vietnam for a short period. It was while stationed at Little Rock that she met and married William Bedford and had three daughters, Carey, Dana and Diane. After being discharged from the Air Force she returned to Mesa, Arizona where she attended Arizona State University and obtained an Associates Degree in nursing specializing in respiratory therapy. She later moved to Seattle, Washington where she worked as a respiratory therapist for over 20 years. Once her girls left for college, she signed up for the traveling nurses program and was hired by Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City, OK and a short while later by Great Plains Regional Medical Center in Elk City, OK from which she retired in 2006 after a total of 29 years in the nursing field.

Deborah met Christopher Carpenter in 2010 and they were married at Wheeler, Texas on May 24, 2013.

Deborah loved to do arts and crafts especially with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed motorcycle trips, traveling, fishing, and gardening. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great all around friend. She had a huge heart and loved everyone and was loved by everyone.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband, Chris, of the home; 6 children, Carey Harris and husband, Jared, Cairo, Egypt, Dana Newberry and husband, Stuart, Odessa, FL, Diane Aldus and husband, David, Calgary, Canada, Lisa Zimms and husband, Chad, Elk City, OK, Lindy Duncan and husband, Franklin, Elk City, OK, Lane Carpenter, Sayre, OK; 12 grandchildren, her siblings, Christy Frazier, Orange County, CA, Eric Englund, Minneapolis, MN, Cheryl Furst, Tampa, FL, and a host of other relatives and friends.
