Christopher Lee Schmidt was born February 1, 1978 in Elk City, Oklahoma to Linda Ann and James Lee Schmidt. He passed away November 12, 2002 in the Great Plains Regional Medical Center, Elk City, Oklahoma at the age of 24 years, 9 months and 11 days.

Chris attended Sweetwater Schools and was married to Michelle Lynn Haney at Wheeler, Texas on October 22, 1996 and they made their home in Sweetwater, Oklahoma.

Chris loved to hunt deer and take care of his cows.

He was a Driller for Service Drilling Company for a number of years until January, 2002 when he went to work for Steve Perry at his dairy. On May 16, 2002 he bought his own dairy operation because he wanted to raise his boys on the farm.

They attended the Sweetwater Assembly of God Church and were preceded in death by his father, James Lee Schmidt; and step father, Ted Burckhalter.

Services were held Friday, November 15, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at Sweetwater School Auditorium, officiated by Andy Taylor and J. M. Ashley. Burial was at the Buffalo cemetery under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service.

Survivors include his wife, Michelle of the home; two sons, Nathan and Ethan of the home; his mother, Linda Burckhalter of Sweetwater, Oklahoma; maternal grandparents, A. B. and Laurellen Witt of Sweetwater, Oklahoma; paternal grandparents, Ike and Jane Schmidt of Sayre, Oklahoma; two sisters, Julie and Brent Skelton of Elk City, Oklahoma; Brandi and Jarrod Blevins of Sayre, Oklahoma; one brother, Ben and April Burckhalter of Sweetwater, Oklahoma; and a host of other relatives and friends.
