Beaver County, Oklahoma

Kirby Cemetery

Location: S28-T1-R23

This cemetery is 4½ miles west of the Beaver-Booker highway, 2 miles north of the Oklahoma-Texas state line. James O. Kirby gave an acre of land for cemetery purposes in 1910; however, the deed to the South Flat Methodist Church was not given until January 18, 1917. The cemetery became the property of the Booker Methodist Church in the late 1950’s. At this time a plat was filed which stated that no charge would be made for lots, but a permanent marker must be installed on each grave. There are approximately sixty-five graves. There are several white marble markers with no inscription showing. There are about a dozen metal crosses among the headstones with no evident inscriptions. There are several white wooden crosses near the northeast corner.
