April 19, 1925 - August 5, 2019

Graveside services will be Thursday, August 8, 2019, at 11 a.m. at Short Springs Cemetery with Reverend Chris Ruwaldt, Pastor, First Baptist Church, officiating. Wharton Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be made at http://www.whartonfuneralchapel.com.

Marvin David son of Mailda (Schwab) and P.A. Weigand was born on a farm around Ingersoll, Oklahoma, on April 19, 1925. He passed away on August 5, 2019, in Alva at the age of 94 years 3 months and 17 days.

He went to school in Short Spring Schoolhouse for three years graduating from Lambert High School with the class of 1944. He attended Northwestern State College receiving a bachelor's degree in 1950.

After graduation he went to work for Oklahoma Natural Gas Company working on rural compressors in southern Kansas where he lived and maintained the compressors. He also worked at the compressor plant north of Alva, for 30 years before retiring from the company in the 80's.

Marvin was a member of the First Baptist Church in Alva.

A jack-of-all-trades, he loved to work with his hands, making knifes from pieces of metal he found. He enjoyed carving wood and gardening. While living at the Homestead he loved growing vegetables. He would bring his vegetables in for the cooks to use. As he got older others helped him with his gardening.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, infant twins, and brothers Julius and R.J.

Marvin is survived by two sisters, Ella May and her husband Lelyn Batt of Abilene, Texas, and Virginia Harvey of Wichita, Kansas; two brothers, Emmanuel and wife Lois Fay Weigand of Farmington, New Mexico, and Norman and wife Gladys Weigand of Wichita, Kansas; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers the family has asked that the contributions go to Samaritans Purse through Wharton Funeral Chapel.
