Joan (Kinnaman) Embree
July 18, 1932 ~ January 12, 2022 (age 89)

Joan was born on July 18, 1932 in Sedgwick County on a farm near Cedar Vale, Kansas to parents Ransom and Eva Huffman Kinnaman. She passed from this life in Enid, Oklahoma on January 12, 2022. Joan and James Embree met in Wichita while she was working at Avis Rent-A-Car. They were married April 28, 1956. To this union four children were born, two sons, Charles David and Timothy James, who both died a few hours after birth, and two daughters, Sherri and Lori.

Joan was a member of Burlington Riverside Church of Christ. She loved all her brothers and sisters in Christ. Her favorite hobbies were, first, reading the bible, then anything else she could get her hands on "that was good for the soul and spirit." She loved cooking, especially baking homemade bread and sharing it with friends and neighbors. Joan worked at Avis Rent-A-Car before marrying James. Then she worked for Thrifty Rent-A-Car with James until 1961. Joan had also worked twenty years for Tulsa Technology Center as cafeteria manager. Her daughter, Lori, opened The Vintage House in Burlington and Joan worked there for fifteen years.

Those who have preceded Joan in death are her parents, Ransom and Eva Kinnaman; two infant sons, Charles David and Timothy James; brothers, Gary Kinnaman and Lowell Kinnaman; sister, Jean Hensley.

Those left to cherish Joan's memory are two daughters, Sherri Garroutte and husband, Larry of Collinsville and Lori Shipley and husband, Dale of Perkins; many wonderful grandchildren, Shawna Adams and husband, Cory, Courtney Schupbach and husband, Matt, Kelsey McMains and husband, Chad, Brittany Rupp and husband, Kyle, Justin Clark and wife, Caitlyn, Kenzie Collins and husband, Kody, and Colten Kraft; great grandchildren, Taylor McQuay, Gage Griffith, Emma and Hudson Schupbach, Cross Jackson McMains, Taten, Kasey, Koby and Leighton Rupp, Lydie, Raleigh, and Lydia Clark, Baby Kaselyn Collins (who will arrive in March), and Mia Allen; sister-in-law, Ellen Kinnaman of Wichita, Kansas; many nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
