Minnie Belle Morton went to be with her Savior on February 10, 2011, at the age of 87 years, four months and 16 days. She was born on September 24, 1923, in Gans, Oklahoma to Andrew Franklin and Beatrice (Stimpson) Tune. Minnie had been in the Pocola Nursing Home for one year and one month. At her flight to heaven she was surrounded by her loving family and the staff whom she loved at the nursing home.
Minnie accepted the Lord as her Savior at the age of 19 years. She was a member of Eldon Baptist Church until she moved to Poteau, where she joined Friendship Baptist Fellowship at Rock Island, OK. She loved singing “Amazing Grace”. She never missed attending worship service while she was at home. The Lord gave her love and the ability to love everyone.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Morton, two sons, Stephen and Michael, her parents, four brothers and three sisters.
Minnie is survived by her eight children, Joe and Diane Morton, of Stilwell, Peggy and Kenneth Self, of Poteau, Marvin and Betty Morton, of Spiro, Jackie and Shirley Morton, of Poteau, Kenny Morton, of Arkoma, Roger and Mary Morton, of Stilwell, George Morton, of Heavener and Charolette and Frank Williams, of Arkoma; two brothers, Otis Tune and wife, Shirley, of Jenks, Kenneth Tune and wife, Mary, of Pryor, thirty grandchildren, sixty great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Stanley Kelly, Robert Kelly, Donnie Morton, Allen Hamilton, Gerry Vick and Chuck Reneau. Honorary pallbearers were the grandsons, granddaughters and the rest of her newphews and nieces.
Funeral services were held 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 14, 2011, at Hart Memorial Chapel with Bro. Jess French and Bro. Greg Duncan officiating. Interment followed at Freewater Cemetery under the direction of Hart Funeral Home of Stilwell.
