Maggie Nofire Hill

Funeral services for Maggie Nofire Hill, 76 of Stillwell, will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2002 at the First Indian Baptist Church in Tahlequah with Revs. Ellis Foster and John Goodrich officiating. Burial will follow at the Echota Cemetery under the direction of Reed-Culver Funeral Home.
Maggie Nofire Hill was born Oct. 18, 1925 in the Rocky Mountain Community in Adair County, the daughter of Jack and Mary (Mankiller) Nofire, and she passed from this life on Friday, Jan. 18, 2001 [2] in Muskogee. She was a full- blood Cherokee and fluent speaker of the Cherokee language.
Maggie attended schools at the Dwight Mission, Chilocco Indian School and the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Forth Worth, Texas. She was a devoted member of the First Indian Baptist Church in Tahlequah, where she served as the pianist, pre-school Sunday School teacher and was past president of WMU. She was also a dorm matron at Sequoyah High School, from which she was retired.
Maggie was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Lois Ishcomer and Anna Kilpatrick.
Survivors include one son Tim and his wife, Eugenia Hill of the home, two daughters, Linda and husband, Albert Daugherty and Karen and husband, Tommy Chapman of the home, two grandchildren, Larry and wife, Joy Fields Jr. and Lindsey Dawn Chapman of Tahlequah; two brothers, Sam Nofire of Stillwell and Eli Nofire of Tahlequah; sister Lucy and husband Curt Sinclair of Black Creek, NY. She also leaves behind many other relatives, loved ones and friends.
