He was married to the former Ollie Ola Shore July 23, 1912 in Pauls Valley. They lived in Rush Springs from 1916 to 1943, Norman from 1943 to 1958, then moved back to Pauls Valley and lived there nine years before moving to Fletcher in 1967. A retired carpenter, he was a member of the First Baptist church, where he was a deacon. His wife preceded him in death in 1971. Father of Mrs. Hubert Murphy of Riverside, CA; Mrs. W.M. May 1959 George Melvin Johnson Rites for G. Johnson Held in Church Today Services were held today at 2:30 in the Southern Baptist Church for George M. Johnson. Rev. Robert Young officiated, assisted by Rev. Tom Broughtown of Pauls Valley. George Melvin Johnson died at his home at 4 pm Tuesday, May 12, 1959, after being ill about 5 months with a heart condition. Mr. Johnson was born at Decatur, Texas, May 13, 1892. He was 66 years, lacking one day being 67 years of age. He grew up, went to school and lived in Texas until he came to Oklahoma in 1927. He was married to Mora Bond, December 20, 1914 and to this union was born three daughters; Bela, Flora Fay and Dolly; and a son, Jasper. His wife died January 13, 1925. Mr. Johnson was married to Winnie Gossett, March 28, 1938. They have made their home in and near Rush Springs since that time where he has been a farmer and a carpenter. Survivors are his wife and son, Jasper, of the home; three daughters, Mrs. Bela McClure of Rush Springs, Mrs. Flora Fay Cantwell of Midwest City, and Mrs. Dolly Cantwell of Oklahoma City; two step-daughters, Mrs. Winona Wettengel of Henrietta, Texas and Mrs. Maxine Cast of Midland, Texas; one brother, Joe Johnson and one sister, Mrs. Exa Jones both of Duncan; another sister, Mrs. Mercia Reagan of Decatur, Texas; six half-sisters, seven half-brothers, Mrs. Dorie Jones of Cox City, Mrs. Ora Hudman and Elmer Johnson of Abilene, Texas, Mrs. Vera Smith, Mrs. Bertha Shoemake, Sam Johnson and Charlie Johnson of California, Mrs. Katie Black of Alex, Milton Johnson of Chickasha, and Johnny Johnson who lives in Montana. Other survivors include thirteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Burial will be in the Rush Springs cemetery." Note: Winona Wettengel is the submitter's mother. |

Arch Edward Johnson
Funeral services for Arch E. Johnson, Sr., age 80, of Rush Springs, were held at 2:30 pm, Monday, Feb 3, 1997, in the Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral Chapel in Rush Springs. Rev. Joe Capps officiated.
Arch E. Johnson, Sr., was born June 7, 1916, the son of Thomas Leonard and Myrtle Tate Johnson, and died Friday, Jan. 31, 1997, at his home in Rush Springs.
Mr. Johnson was a retired mechanic.
He married Mary Dell Stamper on Feb. 14, 1986, in Wichita Falls, Texas.
He was a well known fiddler who played many benefits and senior citizen events with the Ragtimers Band.
Mr. Johnson was also a member of the Vimy Ridge Baptist Church of Rush Springs.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Dell Johnson, of the home; one son, Arch E. Johnson, Jr., of Ninnekah; one daughter, Mary Nell Woods, of Westminster, Colo; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; and stepchildren, Jeannette Worden of Ninnekah, Vivian Peters of El Dora, Iowa, Woody Stamper of Houston, Texas, and Johnny Stamper of Broken Arrow.
Interment will be in the Rush Springs Cemetery under the direction of Callaway~Smith~Cobb Funeral Chapel.

Buena V. "Bea" [Gilpin] Johnson
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, today, January 4, at the First Assembly of God Church in Rush Springs for Buena V. Johnson, 69 of Rush Springs. The Rev Lonnie Harris, pastor of the church, officiated.
Johnson died Monday, January 1, in Chickasha, she was born May 10, 1920 in Rush Springs. She had lived here all her life.
She was married to J.B. Johnson on February 14, 1953, in Duncan. He preceded her in death May 8, 1989.
Bea Johnson was a member of the First Assembly of God Church of Rush Springs.
She is survived by four sons, Roger Johnson, and Bennie Johnson, both of Rush Springs; Billy Johnson, Burleson, Tex.; and Sammy Johnson, Eufaula; two daughters, Phyllis Willmon, Chicksha and Mary Nell Holmes, Westminster, Colo. Also, one sister, Thada Bell Davis, Rush Springs, 20 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Gene Bratcher, Jr. Hale, Billy Pittman, Pete Loyd, Dale Jones, and Calvin Spears.
Burial was in the Rush Springs Cemetery under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home of Chickasha.

Charles Milton "Milt" Johnson
Charles Milton "Milt" Johnson, 93, of Rush Springs passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, August 28, 2015.
Charles was born to Ebb Melvin and Hettie Bell [Garrison] Johnson in Madill.
He attended school at the Union School in Ninnekah until he had to leave school to help his parents support his six brothers and his sister.
When WWII started, he enlisted in the US Navy and served three years with the Seabees building docks and quonset huts for housing the soldiers. He also operated a bulldozer.
After returning home from the war, he met the love of his life, Wanda Maxine Brewer, on a blind date. It worked out pretty well because on May 5, 1944, that blind date resulted in a marriage which lasted over 70 years and produced 5 children; Larry Wayne and Charles Grant Johnson, Phyllis Lynn Johnson, Janice Faye Johnson Taylor and the kids' brother from another mother, Kent Byron.
Charles worked in the oilfield and among his other dutes, he worked on a seismograph crew offshore in the gulf. He worked for Mobil Oil for a couple of years until joining Texaco. He worked for Texaco for over 25 years. While with Texaco, he traveled to Texas, New Mexico, both Dakotas, Illinois, Kansas, Arkansas and Louisiana. In 1970, Charles moved his family from Louisiana to Rush Springs where he worked for Cline Industries and Grady County District 3, retiring after 17 years of service.
Milt loved hunting, fishing, gardening, farming, canning and cooking, but his greatest love was for his wife and family. He was deeply devoted to them and could always be counted on to offer his support and encouragement to all.
Charles was saved in the First Baptist Church of Wister, OK and was baptized in the river there. He attended the Southern Baptist Church in Rush Springs.
He was preceded in death by parents, a son, Larry Wayne Johnson, 4 brothers, Lucian, Sydney, Elton, and Wayne Johnson, and his sister, Alta Hill.

Jasper Jay Johnson
Jasper Jay Johnson, 75, of Rush Springs died Thursday, December 16, 1999 in Marlow Manor Nursing Home in Marlow.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 18, in the chapel of Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral Home in Rush Springs with the Rev Elmer Whitehead officiating. Music was presented by Jean Patterson. Burial was in Rush Springs Cemetery.
Mr. Johnson was born July 21, 1924, in Alvord, TX, the son of George Johnson and Mora Bond Johnson. He had lived in Rush Springs 61 years and previously in TX. He was a member of the Southern Baptist Church of Rush Springs.
Survivors include 2 half sisters, Maxine Cast and Winona Wettengel of Oklahoma City; two nephews; Mickey McCLure of Rush Springs and John McClure of Chandler AZ; two nieces Virginia Woody of Rush Springs and Loretta Coleman of Fayetteville NC.
Pallbearers were Ray Halbert, Bud Craddock, Bob Graves, Stanley Smith, Jim Williams, and Junior Hale.

Wanda Maxine [Brewer] Johnson
Wanda Maxine Johnson passed away Sunday, June 12, 2016 at her home in Rush Springs. She was 89.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, June 15, 2016, at the Callaway-Smith-Cobb Chapel in Rush Springs with the Rev. Daniel Ray officiating. Burial will be in the Rush Springs Cemetery under the direction of Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral and Cremation Services.
Wanda was born Friday, March 4, 1927 in Rush Springs to Ulysses Grant and Ruby Lee [Trammell] Brewer. She attended school at both Slaton and Rush Springs Schools. Wanda married Charles Milton Johnson on May 5, 1944 in Chickasha, he preceded her in death on August 28, 2015. She was a homemaker and enjoyed taking care of home and her family. She was active in the Slaton Home Demonstration Club, she enjoyed flowers, gardening, canning and her needlepoint. Baking and cooking for her family was always special for Wanda. Caring after and loving her family and friends is what made Wanda happy. She will be greatly missed by all. She was a member of the Southern Baptist Church in Rush Springs.
She was preceded in death by a son, Larry Wayne Johnson and a sister, Betty Jean Morgan.
